Instead of high-intensity workouts, acrobatic yoga or plunging into ice baths, the latest fitness trend focuses on listening to the body and the importance of making time to rest, recover and repair, both physically and mentally.
“Rest days are critical to sports performance for a variety of reasons. Some are physiological
and some are psychological. Rest is physically necessary so that the muscles can repair,
rebuild, and strengthen.” Very Well Fit
“Under recovery” is now a more commonly used term than “overtraining” – with physical and mental problems now being associated with not taking the time you need to allow your body and mind to rest and develop naturally. Doctors and sports trainers are paying closer attention to not just how many times a week you have been exercising but also the number of rest days in between.
While experts vary on the time for rest they recommend a general consensus is that you should take a rest day every three to five days. But resting and allowing time to recover is actually harder than you think, not made easier by the fact that
“the term has become a lot more sophisticated than just taking a day to lie on the sofa and catch up on Netflix. There’s now a growing trend for supercharging your rest days with dedicated gym classes, gadgets and techniques designed to help you recover better and faster.” Sustain Health Fit
Here at Bawah Reserve we have a number of experiences and activities designed to help
you rest, recover and repair for a fit mind and body.
Simply taking a holiday at Bawah Reserve will ultimately help you to rest and recharge.
“Rest: to cease work or movement in order to relax, sleep, or recover strength.” Definitions from
Oxford languages.
Why not take advantage of a number of restful experiences designed for the ultimate relaxation?
From sound bathing to stargazing from meditation to movement, while allowing you to rest, these activities also offer excellent health benefits such as inspiring creativity, calming the mind, combating stress and increasing a feeling of happiness.

“The three pillars of proper recovery are eating right, hydration and sufficient sleep.” Stack
These three pillars fall in line with what we encourage all our guests to experience on Bawah Reserve.
With a menu focused on fresh and delicious food, breakfast to supper we take care of
keeping your meals tasty and nutritious so you can focus on your recovery. Interested in
sampling more vegan fare or eating less red meat, our chefs are adept at all sorts of dietary
requests. We have been revising our menus to be more Flexitarian friendly. Do read about
the flexitarian diet.
Such an important part of any recovery, sleep gives your body so much of what it needs. Did
you know that on average an adult requires 7-9 hours of sleep to function at their best and
most productive? Follow some of our top tips to help you get that perfect night sleep.
Water is essential for a healthy diet, and drinking at least two litres a day can keep you hydrated, help with weight loss and stave off infection. We share some ideas to help you clock in your two litres a day by adding some sparkle into your diet the healthy way.
One of the best ways to help repair your muscles is through massage. At our Aura Spa we have created a RESTORE menu designed especially for this.
“A life well lived through the passage of time, a dedication to exercise and days spent soaking in nature require a dose of restoration every now and again.”
Just like Bawah’s ecological efforts to accelerate the recovery of our ecosystem, these treatments are aimed to return you to a previous state of time gone by. This head-to-toe massage uses medium-to-strong pressure to improve energy levels, increase sound sleep and melt away muscle tension. It’s designed for active people who need to recover from busy lifestyles.
Awaken the senses with an essential oil blend, which warms the muscles, eases body aches and invigorates the mind. Check out our Aura spa brochure here. (Link)
We would also like to add on one more word for overall wellbeing and that is: reconnect.
With so much going on in the world these days sometimes you need to disconnect from your scheduled life to reconnect allowing for renewed bonds with loved ones and restored energy, creativity and a sense of happiness.
Book in your rest, recover, repair and reconnection getaway now!
