Naturally Fit - Using the island as your gym

Written by Bawah Reserve | Nov 12, 2019 4:49:49 AM

Bawah Reserve has a fully equipped, air-conditioned gym, but why not embrace nature and get
inventive with your fitness regime while on holiday.

Here are 10 ways to get your workout in the au natural way……

1. Swimming

It’s perhaps the most obvious exercise when on an island. With 3 lagoons
and 6 islands, a swim is a great way to explore the Reserve and benefit your health, too.
Increase your heart rate, tone your muscles and build strength and endurance without
stressing your body. Dip into the sea, our infinity pool – or both.

2. Kayaking

Did you know that just one hour of kayaking can burn over 350 calories?
Kayaking builds muscle strength in so many more areas than just the arms; in fact, over
16 muscle groups get a workout when you take to the water with a kayak. Choose from
single or twin kayaks, or book one of our transparent kayaks to watch the underwater
marine life as you glide by.

3. Stand up Paddleboarding

It might look like you’re just standing, but SUPing silently
uses muscles throughout your entire body to keep you balanced on the board. From your
core to tiny muscles around the bones in your feet, it’s a full body workout. A one-hour
session burns around 500 calories – just enough to clear breakfast and make room for
lunch. Read more about the benefits of SUP here: https://blog.bawahreserve.com/10-reasons-to-stand-up-paddleboard

4. Sailing

Yes, sailing can be a good workout. It’s a sport that affects many aspects of your
physical fitness, from core strength, pulling on lines and manoeuvring the rudder to
overall muscle endurance from placing your boat into and out of the water.

5. & 6. Scuba diving and Snorkelling

Whilst you might think of these as fun activities to do on holiday, they are both indeed forms of low-impact exercise which put your whole body to the test. From fins that tone the legs to lifting heavy equipment, this is a great way to get moving, explore the sea and have a thoroughly enjoyable time.

7. Running

It’s simple – and still one of the best ways to stay in shape and improve your
mood. The walkway from one end of Bawah to the other, including the jetty, is 1
kilometre, so you’ll have no problem getting your morning 5K in. For added intensity,
run on the beach; the resistance from the sand can surprise even the most avid of
runners.

8. Hiking

With five different hiking routes available on Bawah’s main island, you can hike
to different lookout points on each morning of your stay. It’s worth an early start to
catch the staggeringly beautiful sunrise views. The uneven terrain of the trails and the
health benefits of nature make this a great workout for the body and mind.

9. Stair Climbing

Stairs are a great cardio workout. With 80 stairs up to Treetops
restaurant, it’s the perfect stairway to fitness.  Rise early to run them multiple times, or
take them two stairs at a time to increase the intensity of your workout.

10. Movement classes

Grab a mat and roll it out on your verandah or on the soft sand at
the beach. Whether you follow your own practice or want to take part in a scheduled
class, there is no shortage of great outdoor locations to increase your flexibility,
strengthen your body and relax your mind.
