Online meeting, remote meeting, video conference, virtual meeting – call it what you like. If you’re working, chances are you’re either planning one, in one or have just come off one.
A growing number of organisations have moved to allow employees to work from home, be it on
a flexible basis – three days a week, say, or even full-time remote working.
Back in February this year, software giant Salesforce announced that “the 9-5 workday is dead”,
promising that its employees would have the opportunity to work from home even after it was deemed safe to return to the office. According to distantjob.com, it’s all about empathy. What’s more, it’s not only good for the workers – it’s in the interest of both the company and the employees.
Even Ford Motor Co. has shown wiliness to embrace remote working. Since July, around 30,000
of its employees worldwide have had the option to work from home “forever”. Others are benefitting from a new hybrid option, splitting workdays between home and office.
So it’s understandable that a meeting that you have online rather than in-person has become the new working norm. In addition to the many platforms and video conferencing apps for free online meetings – Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, for example – a number of integrations and productivity tools have popped up. They’re all designed to make your online meetings more productive, more fun and less work – before, during and after. Nowadays, having a cool virtual background is just the beginning!
Here are five of our favourite best remote meeting tools, most of which can be integrated with your online meeting platform of choice.
1. Spot: Add healthy movement to your workday routine with a collaboration tool that’s
built to support walking meetings. Just do your prep, then Spot helps you to escape the desktop
and walk while you talk – with easy access to your agenda, and full recordings of the meeting to
review later.
2. Docket: A meeting productivity platform, Docket allows for collaborative agenda
creation, decision documentation, action item tracking and more. It also has a cool brainstorming
template to collect every idea, question, assumption and decision – and it offers a useful in-
meeting timer to keep your time-blocked agenda on track.

3. Fellow: This meeting agenda software has a collaborative agenda builder and enables
members to share meeting notes, record action items and send meeting notes. In our books, being
able to send the meeting notes to all attendees is a big plus, ensuring that everyone is on the same
page and that no time is wasted on reminders on who needs to take the next step.
4. Otter.ai: Writing minutes of a meeting is always a tedious chore, but nonetheless important. Otter ai allows all members to be fully present, taking automated minutes with summary keywords, highlights, photos and full audio transcripts in shareable notes that sync audio, text and images in a searchable archive.
5. Hivebrite: This online portal facilitates building, managing and engaging a community
remotely – any sort of community. While Hivebrite isn’t a meeting tool as such, it could be a
great platform to engage with your work team, while allowing members to interact virtually.
Think intranet – but better!
We have to ask the question: with these amazing tools at your disposal, who needs an office?
What’s more, they’re bound to put workcations right back at the top of your agenda.
