Wellbeing Trends for 2024

bathleisure and other wellbeing trends for 2024

As we step into 2024, the world of well-being is teeming with transformative trends that promise to redefine our approach to health and happiness. Highlighting the top six trends for the year, we explore the resurgence of healthy socialising, the quest for longevity, the rise of sustainable gyms, innovative exercises for releasing tension and trauma, the concept of burnout breaks, and the growing phenomenon of "bathleisure".

Join us as we uncover each of these key trends shaping the future of well-being in 2024.

1) Healthy Socialising

Healthy socialising refers to activities that bring people together in social settings where they have fun while getting a workout.  According to Teddy Savage at Planet Fitness, “It’s the connection between exercise and functional movement and the desire to connect socially in community settings that make games like pickleball, badminton or padel tennis so hugely popular.

Bawah Reserve has wide-ranging opportunities for fun-first activities for couples and groups, from hiking, kayaking expeditions, and SUP yoga to forest bathing, beach volleyball and so much more. Stress-relieving and energising, whatever you choose, you can’t lose!

2) Longevity

The new emphasis on longevity research is all about increasing your health span. After all, who would want to live to 120 if their last decades were riddled with pain and chronic disease?

Just one recent influence on this growing trend is National Geographic Fellow Dan Buettner’s documentary series Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones. Blue zones are simply parts of the world that have more than their fair share of centenarians. The five “pockets of health” he originally identified 20-plus years ago are: Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; Ikaria, Greece; Nicoya, Costa Rica; and Loma Linda, California.

Based on his best-selling book The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer from the People Who’ve Lived the Longest, this four-part Netflix series takes us on an entertaining journey around the world to meet some of these inspirational elders and see how they live. Dan has made it his life’s work to understand and share the longevity-promoting lifestyle factors that these communities have in common. Its conclusion? Four major factors influence both healthspan and lifespan:

  1. Having a positive outlook on life;
  2. Moving naturally;
  3. Eating wisely; and
  4. Connecting with others.

Well, to us that just about sums up the Bawah philosophy on health and wellbeing!

3) Sustainable Gyms

Eco-fitness promotes a harmonious connection between nature and exercise, with the concept of sustainable gyms combining physical health with environmental stewardship. It includes features like green walls and outdoor workout spaces, together with eco-friendly exercise equipment, plus energy-efficient facilities and waste-reduction programmes.

JungleGym

With our outdoor jungle gym and an open-air studio for yoga and Pilates, Bawah Reserve is a natural playground that’s already ahead of the sustainable gym trend.

4) Tension and Trauma Releasing  Exercises TRE®

While counselling is effective for many people, some of us prefer not to talk about traumatic events. This method allows you to release the tension without words!

Using a muscular shaking and vibrating mechanism, TRE® is a series of pleasant exercises based on the scientifically backed idea that stress, tension, and trauma are both psychological and physical. The aim is to calm the nervous system and return the body to a state of balance.

5) Burnout Breaks

Burnout reached record levels in 2023. For example, 62% of employees in London reported suffering from burnout mainly due to workplace stress. Major culprits are too much screen time together with the perceived need to always be “on”. The solution? Frequent wellness breaks with a focus on digital detoxing.

Try to spread your precious getaways evenly across the calendar to make sure you get to unwind regularly. Spending time in nature is the ideal antidote to burnout, and Bawah’s pristine islands are the perfect place to do it!

6) Bathleisure

What is bathleisure, you may ask? Previously meaning fashion inspired by bath and leisurewear, it now refers to an elevated bath ritual that’s the epitome of self-care.

The health benefits of a warm bath include easing sore muscles, lowering blood pressure, and boosting circulation to deliver nutrients to every cell in the body. Enjoyed an hour or two before bedtime, it helps to regulate circadian rhythm by boosting melatonin release to support a good night’s sleep.

Bawah’s personalised spa bath experiences take bathleisure to the next level! Choose between an Indonesian heritage herbal or vanilla therapeutic bath to soothe skin and promote wellness. Complete your Aura Spa treatment with a luxurious soak in a copper bath overlooking the surrounding forest, or opt for a romantic in-suite bath turndown ritual.

Remember, your well-being is not merely about fleeting trends! - it’s far more important and enduring than that.
