Wellbeing trends come and go; some grow and flourish, while others disappear simply to be known later as “that fad”. Last year we talked about forest bathing, floating meditation, free-flow writing, outdoor art classes, sound bathing and stargazing — all of which remain firmly on the favourites list!
According to Well + Good :
“All parts of wellness had a shake-up this year—how we work out, what we eat, the products we put on our faces, the way we rest—and the reverberations of those changes will be felt into 2021 and beyond.”
There are already some hot new wellness trends emerging, and below, we delve into those that you can expect to see gaining traction across 2021. The good news is that each of these well-being experiences are gradually being integrated into Bawah Reserve Journey to Wellbeing packages across 2021.
Don’t worry, we’re not talking about the “magic” kind! But, the power of certain mushrooms like reishi, lion’s mane, turkey tail and chaga have significant health benefits from giving you a mental boost to combatting stress. Mushrooms are so easy to incorporate into your diet too — stir fries, salads and side dishes. The new fungus room at Bawah Reserve is under construction and will allow us to grow these varieties of mushrooms for use across our menus. Watch this space!
One of the healthier trends on the coffee market is mushroom coffee. Without a distinct mushroom taste, functional mushrooms are mixed with ground coffee beans for a smooth flavour and a drink that is high in antioxidants and other compounds. Studies have suggested these mushrooms can enhance mental focus, lower anxiety and support the adrenal glands. Click here to see our blog on coffee trends.
Look out for chicory coffee too, which is also gaining in popularity. This coffee is made using ground chicory root, meaning it is naturally caffeine-free. The benefits appear to be reduced inflammation, improved digestive health and decreased blood sugar. It’s known to have some side effects, so be sure to seek medical advice first before changing to this brew.
With Covid-19 forcing lockdowns and the closure of public spaces, many have created their own workout spaces at home. These small spaces, which can be created anywhere from a corner of a garage to converting a spare room, are making home gyms a big hit. This has led to an obvious rise in popularity of home gym equipment and online classes such as Peloton , which have created an at-home fitness community with their famous Peloton bike and now treadmill, and online classes, like Les Mills on demand.
These memberships can be used anywhere, and Ipads located in the Bawah boutique gym allow you to continue this regime while away.
Those who don’t have the space or the cash to create a home gym and simply want to make the most of outdoor time, are now turning to the great outdoors and getting an al fresco workout in. Aside from the
obvious walks and runs, getting out of the house can also be mentally positive — fresh air and new scenery help clear the mind. When you look around the more “natural” equipment you can find: kerbs
become a place for dips, mountain climbers, knee lifts and squat leg lifts; park benches are suitable for lateral lifts, tricep dips and high knee stand-ups; while walls are great for wall sits; stairs for HIIT workouts and so on!
We love incorporating nature into a workout and have several ideas for making the most of outdoors: Naturally Fit.
Water is essential for a healthy diet, and drinking at least two litres a day can keep you hydrated, help with weight loss and stave off infection. As people turn away from sugar-laden sodas, the drinks market has seen huge growth in seltzers, and sparkling and flavoured bottled waters over the past few years. Brands like LaCroix which are free from sugars, calories, sodium and artificial ingredients, have become increasingly popular. But you don’t need to buy name brands when you can make delicious flavoured water at home. Here are some ideas to help you tick off your two litres a day by adding some sparkle to your diet the healthy way.
Honey has always been high on the well-being radar, as it’s 100% natural and a brilliant alternative to processed sugar. But more recently scientists are researching a new type of honey, made by stingless bees. Known as the klanceng bee in Indonesia, their honey contains trehalulose, a rare sugar with even more health benefits than normal honey.
Bamboo bee hives are set up at Bawah and we are gradually attracting more klanceng bees. Their honey will be used in our restaurants and spas.
This is not so much a new trend, but the dynamics of sleep and how to get the perfect night’s sleep is being dissected and analysed at every stage. We also know that it’s not just about what time you get to bed; it’s the quality of sleep that counts too. We have pulled together some top tips to help you get a better night’s rest.
Many found the move to becoming 100% Keto, plant-based or vegan too difficult to maintain on an ongoing basis, but enjoyed the benefits for some of the time. In comes the “Flexitarian”,
probably now representing the biggest percentage of society. The flexitarian is simply a semi-vegetarian — one who is predominantly vegetarian, but who allows a certain amount of lean meat and poultry per week. The #meatfreemonday kind of person. Those happy to not eat meat 80% of the time but occasionally fancy a healthy burger; those who can drop meat Monday – Friday, but like to have more options when eating out on the weekend. Options not limitations are the outcome here. Flexitarianism is a much more practical solution to modern living and more likely to stick around.
Menus at Bawah offers vegan, keto and vegetarian alternatives and options.
For all dietary requirements, you can liaise with the customer relations team and our chefs before arrival.
