Wellness Trends To Try In 2023

It’s a brand new year, the perfect time for a renewed focus on well-being. Over the past couple of
years we have covered many media predictions for the next big thing in well-being:

What a list! You might be thinking: surely there can’t be anything new for well-being in 2023!
Believe it or not, there are many new wellness trends to try in 2023.

Here are 5 to get you up to speed.

1. Sleep Syncing

Sleep syncing the importance of sleep

We’ve covered sleep several times in this wellness blog. Sleep is so important, with its
connection to better productivity, less proclivity for weight gain, lower risk of heart disease,
reduced depression and higher overall EQ (emotional quotient).
But just getting enough sleep doesn’t cut it anymore. Now, say hello to “sleep syncing”!

“Sleep syncing is a wellness trend that is gaining popularity. This involves adjusting your sleep
cycle to the rhythms of nature (like the sun or moon) and tuning it with your circadian rhythm.”
Forbes

From simply having a regular wake-sleep cycle and enough hours between the sheets, to
tracking the quality of your sleep with high-tech gizmos – skipping just got a whole lot more
serious.

2. Cross-country Swimming

“The past few years have seen a huge rise in wild swimming, and with the cost of living on the
rise, cross-country swimming is an accessible way to explore nature, do something a bit different
and experience that buzz from wild swimming and the great outdoors.” Country Living

While we do have a fabulous swimming pool at Bawah Reserve, most of our guests prefer to
swim in the beautiful, crystal-clear water directly in front of their suites. That’s not surprising when
you consider the many health benefits to swimming in the sea. We have our own version of this
latest trend, Wild swimming between our islands, definitely something to try.

3. Friluftsliv (free-air-living)

“Friluftsliv literally translates to ‘free-air-living’ and is the Nordic lifestyle concept that refers to the
value of spending time outdoors, something that is ingrained into Swedes from a young age.”
Glamour Magazine

At Bawah Reserve, we love being outside! Some things are definitely more enjoyable to do
outdoors. Here are a few of our favourite al fresco activities.

4. Low-intensity Exercise

“If you want to become more active but don’t want to engage in intense workouts, then low-
intensity exercise might be perfect for you. This involves activities like walking, yoga, hiking and
swimming that allow you to get your limbs and muscles moving without overworking yourself.
Low-intensity exercise is becoming more popular and is great for those who live busy lives and
are always on the go.” USA Today

Bawah has a fully equipped, air-conditioned gym, but while you’re on holiday, why not embrace
the beauty of your natural surroundings? Introduce variety to your fitness regime by including one
or more of these 10 ways to enjoy a low-stress island workout.

5. Sense-hacking

“Feeling unproductive or sleep deprived? According to experts, sense-hacking helps improve
your cognitive and emotional well-being. Easy ways to boost the senses at home include using
diffusers, candles, wax melts or pillow sprays, and using colour psychology to make our
environment spark creativity, and positivity and boost our mental health.” MSN

We love this trend! Why not visit our island boutique, Six Island Trading Post, where Bawah sells their own unique scented candles that can bring the island feel to you.

Bawah Breeze captures the scent of beach days while Bawah Spice celebrates Indonesian flavours.

Finally, as with all wellness trends, it’s best to go with what works for you as a unique individual.
And if in any doubt, seek medical advice before trying anything new.
